I ♥ The Ivy and most certainly do not frequent the venue as much as I would like.
So at the beginning of the week, I decided a visit was long overdue. Having managed to get a table (a girl has her ways!) I waited like an anxious teenager, willing the hours to speed through to supper!
I had completely forgotten how absolutely stunning the venue is. I am a sucker for the 20’s and especially adore the delicate stained glass that adorns the entire building. After a much needed glass of champagne, not to mention a good 20 minutes mulling over the food and wine menus I placed my order – Potted Kiln Roast Salmon, followed by the Roasted Devonshire Chicken with Foie Gras stuffing and Truffle Jus (for 2) finished off with a Baked Alaska (although, sadly, not of the traditional kind).
My Salmon was delicious, perfectly accompanied with thin slices of fresh and crunchy cucumber – I cannot stand it if it is soft. The main course of chicken was by far my favourite dish. Juicy, succulent and, as the waiter commented as other diners mouths were salivating as the feast arrived, the envy of every other guest in the room. The potatoes were crisp yet fluffy, buttered spinach perfect, but it was the Foie Gras Stuffing and the truffle Jus that really brought the whole dish together. Melt in your mouth flavours that were utterly scrumptious. There was not a thing left! The Alaska was not so much baked, instead a tableside Flambe version, that caught the attention of many.
We left with our tummies full and rather merry – the Quincy Sauvignon Blanc was the ideal partner for the chicken ;0)
Opening times are Monday to Saturday: 12 noon to 11.20pm, Sunday: 12 noon to 10.30pm. For reservations contact The Ivy
