Last week, Veruca Salt had the pleasure of catching up with Tracey Jones, Co-founder of artisan chocolates – The Chocolate. Offering bespoke handmade made truffles finished with Swarovski crystal and edible 24 carat gold, we asked Tracey what gave her inspiration to develop this luxurious and delicious brand along with finding out her lust of the moment.
VS: Have you always wanted to be a chocolatier?
TJ: No. My background is Finance as an Independent Financial Adviser. However my love in life, apart from my husband and daughter – is chocolate!
VS: We love the 24 carat gold and the Swarovski Crystals, what inspired you to use these?
TJ: I adore luxury and all things of a unique quality. So Swarovski crystal and edible pure 24 carat gold combined with the finest chocolate in the world create the Chocolate – the Most Luxurious Chocolate Experience in the World!
VS: What would you make for a party or dinner for 2 / top tips?
TJ: Music, always music, it creates the mood immediately. If it were a dinner for my husband it would be romantic, so candles are a must and Armand de Brignac champagne, my favourite. Aphrodisiac – oysters to start, then any fish but preferably sea bream and of course the Chocolate truffles for pudding! If it were dinner with girlfriends it would be livelier with Bloody Marys on arrival followed by easy, what I call ‘picky’ food, where one doesn’t have to sit down to eat but rather continue chatting and laughing whilst nibbling. Ace of Spades is always chilled whatever the occasion and the Chocolate truffles to eat whenever!
VS: What is the most romantic thing someone has done for you?
TJ: Ooooo, my husband Roy is a huge romantic but one that sticks out is the year we were to be married. The month before we stole away for a relaxing weekend to recharge for the event of our lives! On our 1st evening he presented me with my ‘something blue’ it was the most beautiful diamond and sapphire necklace – I was in tears it was a beautiful gesture and so unexpected. Very romantic.
VS: Do you prefer luxe or high-street?
TJ: It has to be luxe even if that means one has to wait a little longer to get it!
VS: Most wanted item of the moment?
TJ: A Sunseeker yacht!! But more realistically – a Chocolate Brown Birkin Bag.
VS: Top five products / brands?
TJ: the Chocolate, Hermes, Armand de Brignac, Ralph & Russo and Louis Vuitton.
VS: What trends do you predict for next season / what are your forthcoming campaigns ?
TJ: I think an obvious trend is more online purchases, this is going from strength to strength. And more consumers wanting to know a products origin, enforcing the ethical side of manufacturing. The Chocolate will continue brand awareness and more high profile collaborations. I like Guerilla marketing so watch this space!
