The week before last we were amongst the chosen few invited to attend the new Skyfall premiere in Roma – one of our favourite cities!
So with Louboutins packed and our Chanel 2.55 in tow we started our 007 action packed weekend break.
The weekend started on the Thursday, why naturally, with a quick drink with our favourite bartender Salvatore Calabrese at the Playboy Club, Old Park Lane (he was launching his first drink product – Liquore di Limone). Followed by a Rum based Clover Club, our new favourite tipple, and dinner in Mayfair’s Little House we headed on over to the airport.
Sadly even our budget wouldn’t stretch to a private jet (all of our Netjets points had been used), so we opted for the less exclusive, but actually painfree flight from Stansted. Weary after our central London drinks and the journey out of town, we were delighted with our superior class room for the night at on-airport hotel Radisson Blu. They have the most magnificent wine tower complete with delicate ‘angels’ who will scour the vast column in order to find your favourite vintage.
Buongiorno Roma! Having arrived safely and collected by our driver, we headed straight for the Villa Borghese where our hotel Aldrovandi was located. Exquisite and certainly good enough for a secret agent, we were welcomed by the most friendly staff and shown to our room.
Before we knew it the premier was upon us, so prepped and preened to perfection we waited patiently at the bar, Aperol Sprtiz in hand, for the arrival of our driver. Skyfall itself was a delight, full of action and twists (we won’t spoil the plot by telling all) and it was a pleasure to see the cast including director Sam Mendes, the stunning Naomie Harris and Bond himself Mr Daniel Craig. Post premiere drinks were held in the grand St Regis with plenty of champagne and stories flowing.
Other highlights of our stay included the Shari Vari Playhouse – visit here for designer interior and classy cocktails. The Art Cafe is also a must see for those who like to party like a VIP into the small hours.
With Trastevere and Campo de’ Fiori proving to be our favourite spots for eating, drinking and people watching, Veruca Salt will be sure to return to the Roman city soon.
Oh, and for those into Roman Architecture the Pantheon is completely mind blowing!
Skyfall is out now.
